Traits Uniquely Filipino

               

                 Filipinos have many traits and attributes which make us who we are today as a nation. We have many positive traits but also bad ones but there are traits that unique to most Filipinos which I would like to highlight. The traits that I would like to highlight would be resiliency of the Filipino people and the smiles and joy of the Filipinos. Some of you might be asking why I chose these 2 particular traits from dozens of other traits we have. The answer is simple. It is because these 2 come hand-in-hand and are traits that truly make a great Filipino. You would see Filipinos smiling because they have this undying resilience for they never give-up and are always positive. These traits is what I want to share to the rest of the world.

               

                 Filipinos are known to be resilient no matter what obstacle faces them. Filipinos are a strong people and have this undying spirit that gets them through these obstacles. Last year, 2 horrific events came one after the other and hit several provinces in the Visayas Region. These 2 events were the Bohol earthquake followed by Super Typhoon Yolanda which decimated the region. Houses vanished in a blink of an eye. Monuments and Landmarks destroyed beyond repair. People lost their friends, loved ones and even their own lives because of these incidents yet the Filipino remained strong and rose up from the ashes. The Filipino does not show their resilience not only in major events or catastrophes but in their everyday lives. Most Filipinos struggle everyday to make ends meet. They struggle to provide for their daily needs such as food yet Filipinos find a way in the end. They find a solution and even if they can’t find one they will struggle to very end and won’t give up. That is what it means to be resilient.

Another great fact of Filipinos is their ability to smile in the face of adversary. No matter what obstacle confronts a Filipino he will always find a reason to smile and to laugh. Filipinos will always find the silver lining in every obstacle, every glimmer of hope that is possible and use that to smile. In the face of extreme poverty and the outcome of the 2 recent disasters, you will always see Filipinos smiling and laughing as if none if it happened. This ability we have is what makes us Filipinos a friendly and hospitable people to everyone we meet.

These traits are what distinguish us from other people from different countries. The ability to confront a problem with all his strength and resilience while still being able to smile and laugh through it is truly a unique Filipino trait that cannot be matched or outdone anywhere in the world. My only wish is that these traits will lead to a more prosperous country in the future for all that the Filipinos have gone through.
